The CCNP certificate validates knowledge and skills required to install, configure and troubleshoot local and wide area networks. With a CCNP certification, a network professional demonstrates the knowledge and skills required to manage the routers and switches, optimization and security in the LAN, WAN and campus networks (Switched networks.) Candidates can attend a CCNP course if they have already attended a CCNA course and passed a CCNA exam.
What can you learn
642-902 ROUTE - Implementing Cisco IP Routing
On this course network administrators are going to learn to control the advanced routing techniques, planning, implementation and monitoring of scalable IP network. The course covers the following topics:
Advanced EIGRP
Advanced OSPF
Policy routing and Path control
BGP Routing protocol
IPv6 implementation and verification
Routing over Branch Internet Connections

On this course network administrators will be familiar with advanced multilayer switches. The goal is that network administrators find all the benefits of multilayer switches in order to create efficient and easy to tensile network in which increasing the number of work stations will not affect the speed of speech, video and data. The course covers the following topics:
Vlan configuration and implementation
Port Aggregation and EtherChannel
Routing between Vlans on multilayer switch
Spanning Tree implementation
Rapid Spanning Tree implementation
Multiple Spanning Tree implementation
HSRP VRRP and GLBP configuration

Evaluation of the Cisco Certificates in the world
Today, the CISCO Company has the greatest credibility in the World because of its advancement in the field of network infrastructure. The solutions of this company for different problems cover more than 80% of the World’s market, which obviously shows the need for highly educated system engineers able to implement and handle this highly developed and complex equipment. The average annual salary of a system engineer who possesses one of the CISCO certificates can be seen at the chart below. This information was taken from: http://tcpmag.com/salarysurveys/
As you can see from the chart, averages for all Cisco certifications and especially for CCNA and CCNP are up in 2006 comparing to those in 2004. The reason for this is the constant need for Cisco Certified Professionals who would be able to install, configure and operate the CISCO equipment. The average salary in 2004 for the average system engineers who held a CCNA was $60,000 and this number has jumped to $76,500 in 2006 which is a rise of 26 %, and those who held a CCNP certificate have an average salary of more than $88,421 a year, in the same period of time, which is a rise of 31 %. In the future, a further rise of salary and a need for the CISCO system engineers are expected because it is a proven fact that great number of companies started to benefit by using CISCO technology.
TCP Magazine - 2006
For whom is the course intended?
The course is intended for the network system engineers who maintain the big networking systems based on CISCO technology and for the individuals who want to get a CCNP certificate.
How long does the course last
The course consists of 300 lessons. The lectures are held every weekend. Each lecture consists of 8 lessons (one lesson lasts 45 minutes.) The students can also use the LAB during the course. They can access remotely to the LAB by using their personal computers at home. This involves more LAB assignments and, thus, more practicing.
160 lessons of lectures
140 lessons of remote assessment to the LAB
Literature
Each candidate is provided with literature in print and in electronic format
Exams and Certificates
It is obligatory to pass three exams to get the CCNP certificate:
642-902 ROUTE - Implementing Cisco IP Routing
642-813 SWITCH - Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks
642-832 TSHOOT - Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP Networks
The candidates should have some experience in maintaining operative systems. They should also have some basic knowledge about network technologies. The necessary background involves the understanding of the IP, which means that candidates should have a skill to create IP sub netting on the non-octal borders, to configure IP standard and extended access lists, to understand the functions of a distance vector routing protocol and configuration, as well as the configuration of the serial interface and the ability to interpret the CISCO routing table. The necessary background can be achieved after successful finishing of the CCNA Engineer course (Cisco Certified Network Associate.).
